Before digging into the questions and answers for a fresher HR interview, it will be worth reading the introductory article here - HR Interview Preparation Tips for Beginners. A previous article explains how to prepare for an HR interview.

The HR interview more often than not is a selection process, but a shortlist process, where few of the candidates selected from previous cycles are eliminated. So, more than focusing on selection, you have to focus on NOT being rejected.

The first few minutes are very important, as are the first questions. Investigators don't know anything about you. The impression you make in the first few questions will set the tone for the whole session and play a huge role.

HR questions about the candidate:

Que. Hello, how are you today?

- Respond with a pleasant smile. If you had any problems during the day, don't hesitate to mention it. But be sure to express it in a positive note.

examples:

"I'm fine today, sir, thank you."

Que. Tell me about yourself?

- The first and best question for any HR interview. The answer to this question essentially sets the tone for the rest of the interview. The good news is that you can earn a lot of points if the answer is correct.

Que. Give a brief summary of your training (up to two more, that's good, your family and place of residence, your hobbies, etc.).

You can also mention one of your main accomplishments if it suits the situation.
Keep the answer in about 3-4 sentences and no more.
No need to explain your strengths and weaknesses at this point (as it will certainly come).
A common mistake is that most HR interviews involve starting the sentence like "I'm basically from ..." No need to start a sentence like that.
Keep the answer simple and precise and give space and time for other questions. Don't stretch it too much.

example:

"Hi, I'm Kiran and I'm from Bangalore. I did my B. Tech in Electronics and communication at the Rameswara College of Engineering, which is under the University of Bangalore. I had finished my two-plus from Chinmaya Vidhya Mission school and got 98% in CBSE counseling. I have four members in my family and I am the youngest son. I love outdoor sports, especially athletics and I was a member of a university sports team. "
